EngComm is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate engineering and business students to work together formulating solutions. There is really nothing like this competition and our students learned more in one week that they ever imagined. The University of Limerick will definitely be defending their title next year.
Siemens was most impressed by the unique combination of skills that ENGCOMM provides from having Engineering and Commerce students working in collaboration on corporate cases. This competition allows students to have a holistic approach on the type of solutions they will have to generate in their professional life.
The competition is absolutely the best way to find new engineering talent and that is our desire — to find engineers that understand business aspects and are able to work on a team.Over the course of that week, I see a group of nervous young people grow into professionals. Teams are producing solutions to cases that are spot-on with what is currently being done in industry.
“ESB, as a leading employer of Engineering and Commerce graduates recognises the value of case competitions. ENGCOMM is a unique event that simulates working in industry very closely which is why we used it as our model for the ESB Inter Colleges Challenge. We are very happy to commit to be a long term sponsor of ENGCOMM and to support Irish teams attending the event annually. We see this as a key part of our support of Third Level Education in Ireland”
